Club information

The HiElbow Triathlon club was formed in 1998 and is based at Antrim Forum, in Antrim, County Antrim Northern Ireland. It covers the Antrim, Ballyclare, Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus, Ballymena and Cookstown areas. Our membership normally averages around 50 enthusiastic members of all ages ranging from beginners to Ironmen. A mixture of men and women, girls and boys from all walks of life. We welcome new members. The club is very proud of the fact that its membership covers all levels of ability.

All members are encouraged to feel needed and valued. The club has built up a reputation of being friendly and gives a lot of support and encouragement to each other and to those in other clubs, but at the same time strives to be competitive to achieve the best that they can in Triathlon.

All members are encouraged to compete in various events including, Aquathons, Duathlons, Sprint/Standard distance Triathlons (including relays), Novice Tryathlons, Half Ironman and Full Ironman events including 5k's, 10k's, Half Marathons full Marathons.

We have hosted many successful races since 1998. One of these was hosting the Home Nations Triathlon Championships within the Lough Neagh Triathlon held at Ballyronan in August 2002 as was featured in 220 Triathlon magazine (issue 147). In 2004 and also 2005 our Lough Neagh Triathlon at Ballyronan was sponsored by Michelob ULTRA and was an I.T.U. points race which brought to Ireland many elite triathletes. In 2006 we hosted the Irish Elite Triathlon Championships an in 2007 we hosted the Irish standard distance championships. See the dedicated race website: www.loughneaghtri.com.

We host a "TRYathlon" for both adults and children.

Our 2008 race event details will be showing on this website very soon.

The HiElbow Triathlon Club continue to be highly committed and motivated in promoting the sport of Triathlon both at home and abroad for the health and good of all. We are also proud to promote Northern Ireland as a wonderful and beautiful place to visit, where the sport of triathlon is becoming more popular every year and where you can race and then stay and enjoy the craic.

We are members of our sports parent governing body Triathlon Ireland and Ulster Branch

I would like to join the HiElbow Triathlon Club .

- That's great!... here are some points to consider.

This may seem basic to state but we are a triathlon club. We are not a swimming club. You need to be able to swim before you join us at our club swim sessions at Antrim Forum. We will however help you to improve on your swim technique and train you through various sessions to increase both your speed and your endurance. Our pool swim sessions are on Monday and Wednesday nights from 7.30-8.30pm

If you are under 12 years old- You MUST be able to swim a minimum of 250 metres, non-stop and unaided (10 lengths of Antrim Forum pool)

If you are aged 12 or over, including adults- You MUST be able to swim a minimum of 400 metres, non-stop and unaided (16 lengths of Antrim Forum pool)

When you join our club, you will be able to join us at club training sessions which cover the 3 disciplines required to take part in a triathlon race, these are swimming, cycling and running. We will help you with training plans but YOU are the one who will need to commit yourself to regular training sessions, sometimes with other members but also individually on your own. A variety of different sessions are run throughout the year which will enable you to compete at triathlon races. You will be actively encouraged to enter triathlon/duathlon/aquathon races.

If you have any other enquiries or you would like to join us at a training session, please contact the club secretary by e-mail at: info@hielbow.co.uk

She will ensure that you feel welcome. Everyone feels a little nervous when they first join a new club but you will soon get to know us all and have a lot of fun training and getting fitter and competing in triathlon races.

Remember- every journey begins with a single step…………….contact us today. _______________________________________________________________________________________
